Carlos Delgado is all for showing emotions, but only to a certain limit.

Following Jose Bautista‘s latest bat flip vs. the Atlanta Braves, former Toronto Blue Jays slugger Carlos Delgado was asked if he had ever done the same following any of his 473 career home runs. While Delgado admitted that he did unintentionally flip his bat the odd time, he did add that players should limit how much passion they display on the diamond.

“I’m all for playing with emotions,” Delgado said on Sportsnet 590 The FAN’s Starting Lineup on Friday morning. “I’m all for being passionate about what you do. You just have to draw a line somewhere. You don’t want to show the other team up … Obviously there is some situations when you’re a little more emotional than others, but you know, just kind of act like you’ve done it before. You hit a home run, whatever, just put the bat down and run around the bases, and that’s my thinking.”

Delgado went on to say that the situation following Bautista’s latest bat flip was handled well by all parties the next night, which helped everyone move on.

And if you’re wondering exactly when Delgado may have flipped his bat during his 17-year career, revisiting his four home run night vs. the Tampa Bay Rays on Sept. 25, 2003 is a good place to start. Though, it’s more of a ‘bat launch’ than a ‘bat flip’.
